Frankfurt Travel Guide
Also available are single, short-journey and group tickets, which can be purchased from ticket machines that have instructions in English. Weekly, monthly and annual passes are also available.
Train: the rail service comprises seven underground (U-Bahn) lines and eight tram (Strassenbahn) lines which are supplemented by an extensive network of city trains (S-Bahn), operated by Deutsche Bahn, all converging at Frankfurt’s main rail station the Hauptbahnhof.
Bus: there are more than 40 bus lines in service in Frankfurt, including extended service on weekend nights.

Taxi: can be readily hailed on the street or ordered from a central agency. Most taxis are beige-coloured Mercedes. A tip of 5 to 10 per cent or a rounding up of the fare is conventional.
Car: driving in the centre of Frankfurt requires a reasonable knowledge of the one-way system and streets can be heavily congested, especially during rush hours. Drivers are advised that trams always have the right of way in the city, although it is permissible to drive on the tracks and usually unavoidable. Buses also have priority when pulling away from stops.
