Hiking: there are plenty of wide open green spaces in Bonn, from the court gardens behind the university and the banks of the Rhine in the centre, to the surrounding countryside and sprawling forests. Hikers will not want to miss the Siebengebirge (Seven Hills), an excellent hiking area on the south-eastern outskirts of Bonn. Additional opportunities to enjoy the outdoors can be found at the Kottenforst and Ennert forests.
Spectator sport: if you are not feeling very energetic, then relax by watching one of the many spectator sports on offer. Bonn has its own traditional sports which include the world dance champion-ships, the Bonn Lion men's foil fencing world cup tournament and the German three-day event equine championships on the Rodderberg.
Thirty-five hectares are on banks of the Rhine, so it's a popular place to relax for families at the weekends. Active visitors can take part in numerous sports and there are many people on inline skates and bikers enjoying the views. There are lots of events are held year-round including flea markets, beer festivals and concerts.
