Berlin Travel Guide - Eating Out

Popular places for casual as well as more formal dining include Potsdamer Platz and Oranienburger Strasse, while many other options can be found in all the neighbourhoods of Berlin.
Local cuisine

Traditional Berlin cuisine tends to be hearty and rustic. For example, currywurst (a sausage with curry sauce) and Berlin meatballs are typical examples, while eisbein (knuckle of pork) accompanied by Berliner Weisse (a speciality beer) are also favourites.
Most bars stay open later here than elsewhere in Germany. Many bars are excellent and inexpensive choices for eating out, with many serving hearty breakfasts, into the afternoon, or even later.
Beer is considered to be food here and the city's most distinctive variety is Berliner Weisse, which is a top-fermented wheat beer with low alcohol content. It has a somewhat acidic taste, so is normally served with a shot of fruity syrup.
