Introduction to Wesel, Germany
At the confluence of the Lippe and Rhine rivers is the historic town of Wesel, a destination that has been fought over by warring European powers for more than eight centuries. Unfortunately, 97 per cent of Wesel was destroyed by Allied bombs during WWII. Only a couple of historic structures survived, but they are beautiful examples of medieval architecture. Willibrordi Dom Cathedral is the most impressive landmark in town, rising above the downtown area with its stately spires and balanced design. The Citadel is another lovely are worth checking out in the centre. Most of Wesel, however, is relatively modern. Visitors will find a full selection of restaurants, bars and shops to keep them entertained, but not much else in the way of cultural attractions or sightseeing spots. The railway runs right through the heart of town, providing convenient access from the rest of Germany. Hohe Mark Nature Park lies just to the east of town, making this place a good base for exploring the miles of trails on hand. Plenty of Wesel hotels are located both in town and on the edge of the nature park, and they mostly cater to outdoor travellers.other spellings: weselhotels de, wezel hotell de, wesle otel de, wesal hote de
