Introduction to Verden, Germany
The German town of Verden is situated on the Aller River in the German state of Lower Saxony in the northwestern part of the country. Also known as Verden an der Aller, the very location of this historical town is at the point where the Weser and Aller rivers join. Dominating the town, the jaw-dropping Lutheran cathedral (Dom) is one of the main tourist highlights. In addition, a number of historic timber-framed houses can be found here as well. Most of the restaurants, shops and bars are positioned along the traffic-free high street. The town is also known for is traditional horse breeding, auctions, as well as horse racing thus nicknamed 'Reiterstad' (horse riding town).
