Introduction to Stockach, Germany
The town of Stockach lies adjacent to the Swiss border in the southern German state of Baden-Wurttemburg, just five kilometres from beautiful Lake Constance. Comprising 11 ancient villages and founded in the 11th century, the town is popular with domestic tourists but is less well-known to international travellers. Surrounded by fruit farms and wooded hills, the town features a number of Baroque buildings and historic churches, which remain here to the delight of both the locals and tourists, and the town hosts the famous, traditional annual Court of Fools in the main square, in a fun criticism of current politics. As befits a popular tourist town, Stockach gives a good choice of Stockach hotels at prices to suit all pockets, as well as numerous bars and restaurants serving the rich local cuisine and locally brewed beers. Stockach's most famous son was a potter by the name of Anton Sohn, who began the tradition of Zizenhausener terracotta figural ornaments in the 18th century. These amazing and often amusingly satirical figurines and groups are rare and highly valued nowadays, with the Sohn family's collection on permanent display in the town museum. other spellings: stockachhotels, stockash hotell, stickach otel de, stockesh hote
