Introduction to Sangerhausen, Germany
One of the historic region of Thuringia's oldest towns is Sangerhausen, set southeast of the Harz Plateau and founded in the 9th century. For a while in the 11th century it existed as an independent state before falling to Meissen, Brandenburg, Saxony and Prussia during the following 600 years and finally returning to Thuringia. Crowded with rows of half-timbered homes and fine examples of ancient architectural styles, the town offers several must-sees including the 14th century Old Town Hall and Marienkirch, the 15th century St James' Church with its gorgeous interior and the 12th century Basilica of St Ulrich, one of the best Romanesque churches in the country. Sangerhausen is a popular visitor destination, with a good selection of Sangerhausen hotels located in the old city, close to most of the attractions, restaurants and shopping facilities. The mysterious Barbarossa Cave is a short drive away, legendarily the hiding place of the Undead Emperor, awaiting the time of his reappearance. A unique attraction in the town is the Europa-Rosarium, one of the largest displays of roses in the world, with over 8,300 varieties set in 12 spectacular acres of perfumed displays. other spellings: sangerhuasen otel, zangerhausen hote, sangerhausenhotels, sangrehausen hotell
