Introduction to Saarlouis, Germany

Founded in 1680 by the French 'Sun King', Louis XIV, the fortified German town of Saarlouis is situated in the state of Saarland. This atmospheric town is home to a range of historic attractions as well as a number of well-preserved urban buildings dating back to the fortification era and reflecting the town's French influence. The remains of the fortifications include the German Gate and the Casemates and it is possible to tour the old town on a guided walking tour.
