Introduction to Rothenburg Tauber, Germany
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a town in the Bavaria region of southern Germany. Rothenburg is a magical town, adjacent to the River Tauber, enclosed by ancient city walls and packed with buildings that could have come from a fairy tale. Plonlein is one of the town’s most striking streets. The town hall is on the attractive Marktplatz. In the immediate vicinity of the Marktplatz is a profusion of Rothenburg hotels. The cobbled Marktplatz is ringed by medieval timber framed Bavarian structures which house restaurants serving schneeballen, the local speciality; handicraft shops as well as some B&Bs and hotels in Rothenburg. Most of Rothenburg old town is pedestrianised. Horse-drawn carriages offer tours of the town from the central hotels. Frankenhohe Nature Park abuts the north side of Rothenburg.
