Introduction to Rostock, Germany
Rostock is a large port and industry centre straddling the River Warnow in Northern Germany. Warnemunde, Rostock's northernmost suburb is on the Baltic Sea coast. There is an excellent choice of hotels in the medieval old quarter of the city. The Neuer Markt square contains the Baroque town hall, al fresco cafes, restaurants and some of the more historic Rostock hotels. Kropeliner Strasse is a pedestrian precinct, containing abundant shops and boutiques, that leads out from the Neuer Markt to a 14th century gate, the Kropeliner Tor. Additional most accommodations can be found in Warnemunde where it has an attractive beach and esplanade that has several sea facing resorts on it. Alte Strom, a canal near the mouth of the River Warnow, features a picturesque fishing boat harbour with waterside pubs and restaurants, and a fish market.
