Introduction to Remscheid, Germany
To the northeast of Cologne, along the A1 road, is the German town of Remscheid. The town is a remnant of the engineering and metal-working industries which spread throughout the Rhine region in the 19th century. This is epitomised by the Mungstener Bruke, a railway bridge built in 1897 and the highest bridge in Germany. This attraction has made Remscheid famous and brings many people to the region. There are many Remshceid hotels for visitors to stay in, comprising a mixture of modern options and family-run bed and breakfasts. Alongside the Mungstener Bruke, Remscheid boasts the first dam ever built in Germany and in the borough of Lennep is over 100 houses built in the 1700s. Visitors seeking a relaxing holiday will find there are some spas close to the city, and a handful of decent golf courses. There are also some fine places to sample the local cuisine, and all visitors should try rheinischer dobbekooche, a potato cake topped with bacon and sausage. other spellings: remscheidhotels, ramsched otel, remschid hotell, rimscheid hote, rumscheid hotle
