Introduction to Pirmasens, Germany
The Rhineland-Palatinate city of Pirmasens is located on the border with France and is famous for its long tradition of footwear manufacture, sadly declining nowadays. Founded in 860 AD as an abbey settlement, the border town has a chequered history including its past as battle site between the armies of Prussia and France as well as separatist uprisings. Since the fall of communism, Russian, Turkish and Yugoslavian immigrants have flocked to the town. Pirmasens lies on the Palatinate Forest's western borders, surrounded by agricultural acres, with its historic core, the Horeb, home to many heritage buildings and fine churches. Lower Palace Square holds the Old Town Hall, and the massive 18th century Parade Ground is a wide-open space with colonnaded surrounds and massive buildings. Pirmasens hotels offer accommodation for both business travellers heading for the conference centre and leisure visitors. The stunning Palatinate Forest, the largest forested area in the country, is a protected nature park complete with a biosphere reserve, strange rock formations, lakes, waterways and diverse species of flora and fauna. other spellings: primasens otel, pirmazens hote, pirnasens hotle, pirmasenshotels, pirmazens hotell
