Introduction to Neu-Ulm, Germany
Boasting a population of just over 50,000 people, the small city of Neu-Ulm was only founded in 1811 and is situated on the right bank of the River Danube opposite the far older city of Ulm. It is a great place to use as a base while exploring the Bavaria region of Germany. Although the city may be small, visitors will find an excellent range of Neu-Ulm hotels to choose from, many of which can be found inside converted old public houses and other historical buildings. King Ludwig II granted Neu-Ulm city status in 1869, and the city is also graced with its own coat of arms, which features three horizontal stripes in black, white and blue behind a tower. This tower symbolises the fort of the old city, much of which has collapsed and crumbled away in several places. There are several interesting museums here, and more historic churches in Ulm, across the river. The range of restaurants and other excellent eateries that the city offers will please visitors who like to dine in style, and most of the popular eating establishments here serve hearty portions of traditional home cooked meals.
