Introduction to Munich - Schwabing
Historically known as Munich’s artist quarter, the district of Schwabing has kept to this tradition and today offers some of the most diverse and exciting culture in the city. Theatres, museums, galleries and interesting shops are found all over this area along with the creative minds that generate the art. A lively university scene adds to the energy. Europe’s largest park, English Garden (Englischer Garten), is the green lungs of Munich are the star attraction of Schwabing. Twice the size of New York’s Central Park, this massive space is laced with recreation paths, gardens, lawns and other attractions. The Eisbach Stream runs through the park and even has a spot where people surf. Museums are another highlight of this district, with some spectacular art collections on display at the Old Painting Gallery, the Neue Pinakothek and the Glyptothek. Plenty of fun nightclubs, beer gardens and restaurants are speckled all over Schwabing, which has a great selection of Schwabing hotels for those who prefer to stay in the heart of the action.
