Introduction to Munich - Riem
Once the home of Munich’s main airport until it was moved to its new location in the early 1990s, Riem is now a place of recreation and residence on the eastern flanks of Munich. The old airport site has been thoughtfully transformed into a multi-use complex featuring an exhibition hall, a residential area and a recreation park called the Messestadt Riem. Massive music concerts and other festival-type events are often held in the park due to its large space and excellent transport links. With its eye on green development, the city has done some impressive work with the old airport location. Visitors in Munich for a convention, an exhibition or a concert can stay at one of the Riem hotels on site. There are a handful of cafes, coffee shops and bars in the neighbourhood but in reality, the best amenities and attractions of Munich are found deeper inside the city. There is a metro station right in Riem, making it easy to move about Munich.Visit our Munich Travel Guide
