Introduction to Munich - East Munich
Historic Munich is a city in southeast Germany, just north of the Bavarian Alps. It is the capital of Bavaria and home to world famous attractions including the Marienplatz square, the Glockenspiel clock and the Hofbrauhaus beer hall. The East side of the city commences on the right bank of the River Isar. Munich East Train Station (Munchen Ost) is in this area and has direct services to Italy and Austria, and is an interchange on the city's suburban S-Bahn and tram networks. Das Kartoffelmuseum is a museum in the district which is dedicated to the potato. The Ostpark is a picturesque park with vast swathes of meadow and forest. The area has a good choice of restaurants, bars and cafes which serve schweinebraten, the legendary wurst sausage, and nectar-like beer. As this district is within walking distance of the Altstadt's attractions, opting for East hotels offers convenience, yet a less touristy accommodation venue.
