Introduction to Munich - Central Munich
It may be a bustling and prosperous example of great German commerce and industry, but this fabulous city also has a charming, traditional atmosphere that makes it much more than just a big, modern European city. What's more, the art and culture available here could at times rival the trendier Berlin. Perhaps the best-known of the culture on tap here is the great Oktoberfest, which sees huge numbers of beer-loving visitors from across Germany and around the world descend on Central hotels. But this city is about more than breweries and BMWs. The massive Deutsches Museum, a few minutes to the south on the Isar River, could well use up a few days, such is the breadth and depth of its exhibits. The Baroque delights of the Asamkirch, the Church of St Johann Nepomuk, lie less than a kilometre to the west, in the centre of the city. More Baroque fancy is found at the 17th century Theatinerkirche St Kajetan, which is next to the Hofgarten (Court Garden). The city's main railway station is centrally located and offers connections to neighbouring countries as well as domestic destinations to the south.Visit our Munich Travel Guide
