Introduction to Mulheim, Germany

The North Rhine-Westphalian city of Mulheim am der Ruhr, locally called Mulheim, lies in the Ruhr Valley, between the major German industrial and commercial cities of Essen, Dusseldorf and Duisberg. Since the closure of its colliery and associated factories, Mulheim is now the only Ruhr conurbation without mining activities. Known as the 'City on the River', it is today made up of 50 per cent green spaces or forests surrounded by the Lower Berg Hills, the foothills of the Rhenish Slate Mountains. The downtown district is situated right along the river banks. With a population of over 167,000, the city and its infrastructure is well set up for visitors, with a wide choice of Mulheim hotels at all levels, from luxury to basic business accommodation.
