Introduction to Meersburg, Germany
The south German town of Meersburg, set along the shores of Lake Constance, is famous both for its delicious wines and two ancient castles. The two ancient districts, Unterstadt and Oberstadt, with their steep streets and stairs, are mostly pedestrianised and easily explored on foot. The Old Castle dates from the 7th century and contains period furnishings as well as a cafe with stunning views across the lake, the surrounding hills and the distant snow-covered Alpine ranges. The New Castle was built in the 18th century and hosts art galleries as well as regular exhibitions. Both Unterstadt and Oberstadt contain picturesque Meersburg hotels, with several set in Marktplatz, the main square. The city makes for a great base for touring the glorious lakeside and surrounding countryside, and has been a favourite destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts for many years. Summer visitors especially enjoy fishing, sailing, windsurfing and other water sports, with hiking and walking equally popular. other spellings: meersburghotels, meersburk hotell, meersberg otel, mersburg hote, meerzburg hotle
