The little municipality of Meckenbeuren lies in the Bodensee district of the south German Baden-Wurttemburg State, 10kms to the south of Ravensburg. Set on the shores of beautiful Lake Constance, with 13,500 residents, it's the largest rural community in the region. The municipality is made up of a number of hamlets and small villages, set in the valleys and along the hillsides bordering the lake. As with most of the small communities around the lake, Meckenbeuren is part of the Jubilee Trail, offering walks around the region's protected areas of natural beauty. The main road that runs though the town is home to a small selection of Meckenbeuren hotels catering for nature-loving visitors. Travel around the region is easy via state highways 329 and 333, a short drive from the town centre and its quaint rail station serving routes around Lake Constance as well as intercity destinations. Close by is the small regional Freidrichshafen Airport, originally the home of the first flights by the ill-fated Zeppelin airships.
