Introduction to Lubeck, Germany
Lubeck is a port city on the River Trave in the German state of Schleswig Holstein. It is found in the north part of the country and is surrounded by spectacular scenery. The old inner quarter of Lubeck (Alt Stadt) is on an island created by the Trave, which empties into the Baltic Sea a few kilometres away. The Alt Stadt is packed with mediaeval structures. The Old Town is home to a handful of hotels, but the main grouping of Lubeck hotels is found outside the city between the stunning Brick Gothic Holsten Gate (Holstentor) and the railway station (Hauptbahhof). The Alt Stadt has numerous church spires on its skyline. Lubeck Cathedral and Saint Mary’s Church are the two oldest religious structures. The Alt Stadt has some museums and a profusion of cafes and restaurants within walking distance of Lubeck hotels. The hotels in Lubeck are busy at the time of the annual Christmas market.
