Limburg an der Lahn is a historic German town located in the state of Hesse. Travellers can reach Limburg hotels by flying to Frankfurt Airport or Cologne-Bonn Airport and then taking an ICE (Inter-City Express) train to the town. This journey takes 44 minutes from Cologne and just 20 minutes from Frankfurt. Like many similar towns in Germany, it boasts a well-kept Old Town (Altstadt). However, few other places are as untouched as Limburg's Old Town. Some of the most beautiful houses are in the old fish market, where 800-year-old buildings were eventually restored in the 1970s. It's pleasant enough to just wander the ancient streets, take in the atmosphere and enjoy the magnificent array of timber-framed houses. However, it's worth making a point of stopping at the town's Romanesque cathedral, which dates back the 13th century. It sits proudly overlooking the Old Town below. Those looking for more contemporary entertainment can see one of the town's theatre performances, such as the local cabaret troupe, Thing. There are also other regular concerts where artists perform music such as jazz, French chanson and folk-rock.
