Introduction to Kassel, Germany
Kassel is located on the River Fulda in the central German state of Hessen. Kassel has forested areas on either side of it which attracts a number of nature lovers. The city itself boasts a fairly modern city centre as most of it was rebuilt after WWII. The city centre has a reasonable choice of Kassel hotels located between the Hauptbahnhof (railway station) and the river. Several leading international hotelier chains operate Kassel hotels. It also has several museums and art galleries housing eclectic paintings and exhibits; including a rather morbid museum which is dedicated to funerals. Karlsaue Park contains a stately 18th century palace, the Orangerie. Kassel hotels are a good base for daytrips. Outside the city are Wilhelmshohe Palace and Bergpark Wilhelmshohe. This park has several interesting monuments and offers views over Kassel.
