Located on the famous German tourist path known as the Bertha Benz Memorial Route, the town of Bretten is typically passed on the return trip from Pforzheim. Many travellers opt to stop overnight here while driving along this route. The town has a few attractions that are well worth visiting, including Melanchthon's House, which was once home to the founder of Lutheranism and is now a museum.The UNESCO World Heritage site of Maulbronn Monastery is close by and ranks as one of the most impressive Cistercian monasteries in all of Europe. The Peter and Paul Festival (late June or early July) is a highlight of the town. Many Bretten hotels fill up during this event, which attracts nearly 80,000 visitors each year. Those wanting to witness the magnificent Karlsruhe Palace in the city of the same name can easily do so as the S4 commuter train runs from Bretten to the city every 20 minutes. The 18th century St Stephan Church should also be visited while in town.
