Introduction to Immenstaad, Germany
Set in southern Germany, right against the Austrian and Swiss borders, the tiny municipality of Immenstaad, with its just over 6,000 inhabitants, is prettily placed along the north shore of beautiful Lake Constance. It's an ancient settlement dating from the 11th century and unusually, it was purchased in its entirety by the Furstenburg family in the late 18th century before becoming part of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in 1806. Formerly the home of the famous Dornier aircraft factory, Immenstaad is now best known as a tourist destination as well as for its local wines and fruit farms. The town is easily toured on foot, as it covers just over 10 square kilometres, plenty enough to hold a choice of Immenstaad hotels and a number of heritage buildings, including the Town Hall and a church. Its magnificent setting along the lake draws many visitors each year for the peaceful surroundings and stunning views, with water sports such as fishing and sailing popular in summer. other spellings: imenstaad am bodensee hotell, immenstad otel, immenstaad am bodenseehotels
