Introduction to Hornbach, Germany
The Rhineland-Palatinate municipality of Hornbach sits right on Germany's border with France. Hornbach hotels are often used by travellers en route to the neighbouring nation as well as those heading into the adjacent Palatinate forest which joins with Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park to the south. While the settlement here has a lengthy history, it was only in the mid-14th century that it received status as a town under King Charles IV. Much of the historic town centre remains, with parts of the old town walls and gates still standing. Among the most notable buildings within the hilltop Old Town is the Rathaus, or Town Hall. Kloster-Hornbach, the town's ancient monastery, has today been converted into a hotel. There is a small museum tracing the monastery's history on site. Adjacent to the monastery are the 18th century New Church-the Evangelist Protestant Church and the decorated tomb of Pirminius, a notable monk who died in the town.
