Introduction to Gustrow, Germany
Located just 45kms to the south of the large city of Rostock, the charming town of Gustrow makes a good alternative base for those who want to explore the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region of Germany. This part of the world boasts no fewer than five large lakes, and many of the leading Gustrow hotels can be found on the edge of the water, offering visitors stunning views. Naturally, water related activities such as boating and fishing are popular pastimes here, while those who enjoy hiking and trekking will find a number of pretty trails running around the lakes and through the surrounding forests. The town also boasts a recently restored 16th century castle (Schloss Gustrow) with a Renaissance garden, along with a cathedral and St Mary's Church. Those who have their own transportation will be able to reach the very heart of Rostock in less than an hour, and this is a great place to spend the day before returning to Gustrow in the evening for a hearty home-cooked meal and perhaps a glass or two of freshly brewed beer.
