Introduction to Gera, Germany
Gera is one of the biggest cities in the German state of Thuringia, located on the banks of the River Weisse Elster. Most of the main sights in the city are old buildings or museums. A good place to get a taste of the city's architecture is the Town Hall, built in the Renaissance style in the 1570s. Its central location means it's a good place to start a city tour. Guests who end up visiting the oldest building in the city, Schreiber House, also have the opportunity to explore the on-site Museum of Natural History. This museum is located on the premises, where nature lovers can combine a visit to the museum with a look round the botanical gardens next door. In the evenings, the city's unique beer cellars, known locally as geraer hohler, are great places to sample the local brews. One of the easiest ways to get here is by flying to the international airport in Leipzig, just 56 miles north of the city. Alternatively, Gera hotels are easily accessible by train; the main station is a short walk from the city centre. other spellings: gerahotels, gera hotell, gera otel, gera hote, gera hotle
