Gera is one of the biggest cities in the German state of Thuringia, located on the banks of the River Weisse Elster. Most of the main sights in the city are old buildings or museums. A good place to get a taste of the city's architecture is the Town Hall, built in the Renaissance style in the 1570s. Its central location means it's a good place to start a city tour. One of the easiest ways to get here is by flying to the international airport in Leipzig, just 56 miles north of the city.
