Introduction to Freiburg - Outskirts

Freiburg, gateway to Germany’s Black Forest, is a relatively quiet city that makes for a nice break from the country’s more tourist-heavy cities. This chilled-out wine lover’s paradise sits among Baden-Wurttemberg’s vineyards. Many visitors use the city as jumping-off point for trips into the Black Forest, but Frieburg has a few attractions of its own with which to keep visitors hanging around for a day or two. Freiburg hotels often have convenient city centre locations, close to attractions such as the Munster cathedral, the Rathauser (city halls) and the Saturday market. Visitors may like to tour the recent exhibition additions at the Augustinermuseum or walk among the labyrinth of inner city canals known as Bachle. History buffs can make a beeline for the last of the city’s old gates, Martinstor and Schwabentor.
