Introduction to Frankfurt - West Bahnhof
Frankfurt’s West Bahnhof is the regional and suburban train station set in the western district of the city, in Bockenheim district near the University of Frankfurt. The present small, two-storey station building replaced the historic station destroyed in WWII in 1961 and has several fast-food joints and a passenger tunnel under the tracks. The lines run on two levels, with the upper used by S-Bahn trains to Friedberg and the ground level used for the suburban routes including the line to Frankfurt’s Hauptbahnhof main station. The station itself doesn’t have any West Bahnhof hotels, although there are several a short walk away. Access to Frankfurt’s business district and commercial centre is straightforward by train or local bus, and the area has a selection of eateries, pubs and traditional beer halls.
