The small western German municipality of Eppenbrunn sits in a lovely area of forest and outstanding scenery, close to the French border, to the west. Attractions here include the Altschlossfelsen, a 1.5km long red sandstone formation. A footpath takes visitors past the two most notable towers of rock. The municipality's status as a health resort means many visitors arrive here to visit the area's holistic medicine hospital. There is an annual music festival but perhaps the greatest draws are the surrounding walking trails that take hikers past creeks and through lush forest. There are less than a dozen Eppenbrunn hotels and eateries to cater to the trickle of tourists that pass through this wonderful natural area. Just across the border in France is the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park where 30 castles, more than 1,000kms of hiking trails and 20 museums await.
