Introduction to Dresden - City Centre
More than 800 years old and the former home of many Saxon royals, the German city of Dresden is home to an incredible historic city centre and a fantastic skyline that have together attracted tourists over many centuries, including some of the world’s greatest painters. Hotels in Dresden city centre offer the best locations from which to enjoy the incredible streets and buildings of a place once regularly compared to Florence. Much of the damage of WWII has been restored and today, visitors enjoy such historical greats as the incredibly opulent Dresdner Schloss. The nearby river valley, the Dresdner Elbtal, offers such a striking view of the city that UNESCO has recognised it. Zwinger, yet another incredible Baroque palace (one of Germany’s finest), is in the city centre, next to the opera house also a fabulous piece of historical architecture. Though traditionally popular primarily with German tourists, the city’s much-restored glory and flamboyance are drawing increasing numbers of foreigners.Visit our Dresden Travel Guide
