Dillingen, or Dillingen an der Donau, is a Bavarian town on the Danube, as its name suggests. While not a major tourist destination, the town centre and the surrounding villages have a few draws with which to keep visitors occupied. The Church of the Jesuit University of Dillingen is a highlight with its wonderfully ornate Baroque, white and gold interior. The church's ceiling paintings are not to be missed. King's Street is the main road running through the town and where visitors will find the most Dillingen hotels. Touring the nearby villages of Schretzheim, Donaualtheim and Steinheim offers further insight into the local Bavarian way of life. The former village features an Alemannic cemetery dating to the 6th and 7th centuries. The river runs to the town's south and its banks offer lovely parklands. The town features a prominent teacher training academy which helps to keep the entertainment and dining scenes lively.
