Unusually set in the centre of Cologne’s Wahner Heide Nature Reserve, Cologne Airport serves the city and its surroundings with both full service and low-cost domestic and international flights. KLM, Air France and the national flag carrier Lufthansa are the major full service carriers and the budget airline Germanwings serves the most destinations, ranging from domestic through other European destinations and many Mediterranean and North African resort cities and islands. The airport’s annual nine million-plus passengers pass through its two terminals with their convenient in-house rail links to Cologne and Bonn. The terminals provide services for the disabled, a good choice of shops, restaurants, bars and duty-free outlets, a conference and business centre, internet access and all the usual facilities. Cologne Airport hotels are located both close to the complex and on the city approach roads, with all providing shuttle buses to and from the terminals.
