Introduction to Castrop Rauxel, Germany
The former mining hub of Castrop Rauxel in Germany's eastern Ruhr area makes an ideal base for those visiting the nearby cities of Herne, Dortmund and Bochum, to the west, east and south, respectively. Since the closure of the city's seven coal mines in the early 1980s, the area has started to attract tourists who come to see its industrial culture. Visitors normally enter the city by highway, with the A45, the A42 and the A2 all close by. Castrop-Rauxel Hauptbahnhof, the main railway station, offers connections to other major Ruhr cities in the west and east. The main feature of the city is the Rhine-Herne Canal, which hosts an upmarket yacht club. Other draws include the 13th century, moated Bladenhorst Castle, the ivy-covered Goldschmieding House and Halde Schwerin, which sits at the highest point in the city next to a giant sundial. Castrop Rauxel hotels are available for overnight guests to the city. other spellings: castrop ruaxel hotell, castrob rauxel otel, caztrop rauxel hote, castrop rauxelhotels
