Introduction to Braunlage, Germany

Surrounded by the Harz Mountain range, the Lower Saxony spa town of Braunlage is set among picturesque scenery. Besides the spa, whose medicinal qualities attract visitors all year round, the main reason people visit this town is because of the nearby ski resorts of the Sonnenberg and the Wurmberg. During the winter, the town's tourist industry is booming as people come to ski, snowboard, or take part in other winter sports, such as using one of local ski jumps. Braunsage hotels are numerous for such a small town, and there are budget places to stay alongside more expensive establishments. The town itself is modest, although there a plenty of fine restaurants serving a mixture of local German and international food. For those who want to do more than just skiing, the town has a museum dedicated to the history of skiing in the area. In the summer, mountaineers and hikers alike descend on the town to trek around the local mountain range.
