Introduction to Berlin - Schoenefeld Airport
Berlin’s second airport is Schoenfeld Airport, a useful air hub that mainly services regional flights from around Europe including the UK. Whereas Berlin’s main international airport, Tegel, is located within the urban sprawl of the capital, Schoenfeld is on the outskirts, at about 18kms south of the city centre. This doesn’t mean it is some provincial country outpost. Schoenfeld handles more than six million passengers annually. Most of the airlines servicing the airport are low-cost regional carriers like Ryanair, easyJet and Air Berlin. They provide excellent and affordable flights from dozens of small European destinations. The airport terminal isn’t particularly modern or fancy, but it contains more than enough passenger amenities to make for a comfortable travel experience. The Berlin S-Bahn train network runs right to the terminal, with a dedicated airport express train that goes into the centre of Berlin every 30 minutes stopping at all of the main stations along the way.
