Introduction to Berlin - Niederschoneweide
At one time an industrial suburb in the west of Berlin, Niederschoneweide is well on its way to becoming one of the city’s more gentrified districts. It is well-served by public transport, including S-Bahn suburban trains and a smaller number of tramway lines. The three main stations are Schoneweide, Betriebsbahnhof and Oberspree. The latter station, Oberspree, is of most interest to tourists, thanks to its proximity to a riverside beach and cafe areas as well as Niederschoneweide hotels. Those interested in architecture might like to visit the Old Fire Station, while families will be keen to explore the Kollnische Heide urban park, part of which is located in the district. Most of the district’s retail outlets can be found near Schoneweide S-Bahn station, particularly on Sterndamm, home to galleries, cinemas and international restaurants.
