Introduction to Berlin - Kreuzberg
Locally known as ‘X-berg’, the district of Kreuzberg in Berlin is among the most important neighbourhoods in the German capital. It is constantly filled with tourists, largely because of its many attractions and proximity to the Mitte district, home to the city’s historical core. Kreuzberg hotels are usually busy throughout the year and range in style. From the Berlin Wall memorial to the museums that dot the landscape, the district has plenty to offer tourists. Even though there are many sights to see, one of the most visited is the Checkpoint Charlie Museum, which is sited at the former location of a crossing point of the Berlin Wall and contains interesting exhibits on escapes from East Germany, among other things. Founded in 1982, the German Technology Museum displays the history of technology in the country. The beautiful Jewish Church stands proudly within the district and the Jewish Museum, which highlights 2,000 years of Jewish culture in the city, is another worthwhile site to explore.
