Bad Doberan is a town of around 11,000 residents, located in the far north of Germany. It is situated just nine miles from the major city of Rostock, so it's no surprise to find that the town is highly developed. In the town centre, the historic cathedral is the most well-known sight, built in 1368 as Doberaner Munster. This offers visitors the chance to see one of the finest examples of brick architecture, typical of northern Germany. The town's steam engine, which dates back to the 19th century, is used by local residents and tourists alike. Known as the Molli, it covers parts of the town and even runs as far as the beaches. These beaches are around four miles north of the centre, in the coastal district of Heiligendamm. Heiligendamm, home to several Bad Doberan hotels, is one of several districts which make up the town. Once popular with Prussian royalty, the beaches now cater to all kinds of visitors. Air travellers can get here by flying to Hamburg Lubeck Airport, and then completing the journey by train.
