Introduction to Amberg, Germany
Amberg is a beautiful German town of around 45,000 people, located in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. The town hosts a number of interesting buildings as well as well-preserved medieval walls. Market Square is considered to be the centre of town, and is home to the Gothic-style Town Hall. This is one of the oldest buildings in the town, originally built in the 1300s. Otherwise, the New Palace is well worth a look. Built in the early 1400s, it was once home to much of the local aristocracy during medieval times. The town's most distinctive attraction is the Stadtbrille Bridge, which was once part of the city's defences. Stadtbrille means 'town spectacles', as the bridge's two arches look just like a pair of glasses when they are reflected onto the river. Few foreign visitors are familiar with Amberg, so those that do make it here can sometimes have its medieval streets all to themselves. Some tourists like to visit on a daytrip from Munich, but it's a good idea to spend a little longer here and book into one of the Amberg hotels instead.other spellings: amberghotels, hote ambeg, amburg hotell, anberg hote, amberg hotes, amberg
