Punaauia is a commune located in the suburbs of the French Polynesian capital, Papeete. The commune is situated on the island's west coast and looks out to the South Pacific Ocean. It is just a short drive from Faaa International Airport, making it an ideal first or last stop for those planning to tour the island or further afield in French Polynesia. A number of Punaauia hotels are located in the commune, while transportation links are good as it lies on the island's primary road, which runs around the outside of Tahiti and connects all the major towns. Many of the hotels are fairly expensive but they offer excellent facilities within idyllic surroundings. In addition, there are a number of highly recommended restaurants in Punaauia which boast tasty dishes as well as top class service. It only takes around 10 minutes to reach the capital by car from Punaauia, with the busy city a great daytrip option for those who want to spend time away from the beach.
