This evidence can be a valid national passport or national identity card. Both are acceptable. A return ticket, any length of validity on their document or adequate funds for the length of their proposed stay is not required.
Visas are not required by nationals of EU countries for an unlimited period or by nationals of Australia, Canada and the USA for stays of up to 90 days. South African citizens do however need a visa before arrival.
