Paris doesn’t have its own unique cuisine, but around the city you will find some of France’s most famous dishes including escargots (snails) with garlic, foie gras, truffles and lots of delectable seafood dishes. It’s possible to sample all of France’s cuisine without ever leaving the capital.
Paris is a diverse, multi-ethnic city and as a result there are some great international restaurants to be found with Italian, Indian, North African, and Chinese food all readily available. Despite its reputation for fine dining, you will also find plenty of the usual fast food establishments here.
Although Paris is a gastronomic hotspot, it still pays to have some recommendations. Some of the places in the tourist areas of town tend to be over-priced serving set menus consisting primarily of the rather tired favourites such as onion soup, steak and frites, or boeuf bourguignon.
There are many restaurants here though where you will get a memorable and unforgettable meal. La Grand Vefour on rue de Beaujolais is one of the city’s oldest restaurants, it is said that Napoleon used to dine here and the restaurant has been popular with the great and the good of Paris for over 200 years. The food is exquisite, prepared by some of the finest chefs in the world.
