Day Trips and Excursions in Cannes
Antibes: is the nearest of the coastal resorts to Cannes and is a favourite with the locals in summer. It’s a good place to go with the whole family, as it features a delightful and compact town centre and has some of the best sandy beaches on the Riviera. There’s also a large marina here, home to some very expensive yachts in the summer.
Nice: is the financial and business area of the French Riviera, set on the sweeping Baie des Anges. It’s a popular place for sightseeing by day and has a vibrant night scene as well. The ancient town is a pleasant maze of winding streets and small squares surrounded by old buildings in a mix of architectural styles, including Genoese, Provencal, Baroque and medieval.
Monaco: is a small principality on the Mediterranean, bordering France and Italy, where you’ll see a harbour full of luxurious yachts and one of the world’s most elegant casinos, the Casino Royale of Monte Carlo. The tiny country is one of the world’s few remaining absolute monarchies, and seems to survive on a reputation for attracting the well-to-do.
Highlights include the aquarium, Casino Royale, Castle rock and of course the yachts in the harbour. Some tourists do stay in Monte Carlo, particularly during the Grand Prix weekend, but most just visit the principality on a day trip.
One of the main features here is the line of yachts along the quai, and the line of terrace-cafes opposite, the two separated by a parade of strolling tourists and slowly cruising cars. The small streets and old buildings behind the cafes are picturesque, but the area is more popular for the huge selection of shops and restaurants than any particular historical significance.
Provence: is blessed with abundant sunshine, olive groves and vineyards, the scent of lavender and a wonderful regional cuisine. Provence is enormously popular with tourists who enjoy exploring the quaint, ancient towns to be found along its winding roads that make their way up and down the hilly and mountainous countryside.
