Introduction to Tulle, France
Known as the capital of handcrafted lace for its extensive lace and silk production in the 18th century, Tulle is a city located in the valley of the River Corezze in the Limousin region. Once fading into a lost art, lace-making has seen resurgence in this hillside city and is celebrated at the annual International Lace Festival. Tulle netting most likely originated in this southern central city as the buoyant material accented Parisian ballet costumes for many years before appearing in other nations. The city is also known for its production of accordions and contains the single remaining accordion factory in France. A museum dedicated to the instrument gives visitors a look at different stages of manufacture and assembly. The Notre-Dame cathedral is a national historic monument from the 12th century and the seat of the Bishopric of Tulle. Its tall spire can be viewed from Tulle hotels located anywhere in the city. The Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions is housed in the church and is next to the Municipal Museum of Art and History.other spellings: tullehotels, tule otel, tule hotell, tule hote, hotle in tulli
