Standing as the largest city and the capital settlement of Manche department, northwestern France, the city of Saint Lo is a magnificent destination with an interesting history. Saint Lo hotels should be booked in advance as the city receives a high number of international and domestic tourists over the course of a year. Getting into the city is relatively easy as there is a train station on the western banks of the city which connects to other cities in the region, including the port town of Caen. The city was given the title of 'Capital of the Ruins' after being destroyed during WWII's Battle of Normandy. The city has been rebuilt around the ruins, and even though most buildings were flattened during the war, there are still numerous structures worth exploring. The Church of Notre Dame still stands today, but was partially destroyed during the war. It is an ideal showcase of Gothic style architecture within the town. Another sight is the beautiful abbey church of Saint-Croix.
