Introduction to Saint Junien, France
On the northern bank of the Vienne River sits Saint-Junien, the gateway to the Limousin region for travellers coming from the Atlantic coast. West of the famous porcelain-making city of Limoges, Saint-Junien is known for its paper mills, tanneries and production of gloves. These large industries led to a strong communist tradition in the city, noticeably reflected in the names of the city's streets. Along the banks of the Glane River, tourists can admire the site where the painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot frequently came to paint throughout the 1850s. Chatelard Castle has overlooked the Glane Valley since the 14th century. Saint-Junien hotels provide access to Perigold-Limousin Regional Nature Park to the south, the bucolic Blond Mountains to the north, and the Charente limousine to the west. There are many historic monuments and sites in town, such as Saint-Amand Abbey, the flamboyant chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Pont, and Collegiate St Junien, one of the first churches to be classified as a national historic monument.other spellings: saint junienhotels, st.junien otel, st junin hotell, st.junien hote, st.junaen hotle
