Introduction to Provins, France
When it comes to tourist-centred towns, Provins is one of France's unsung heroes. Known as the City of Medieval Fairs, it is found in the north-central region of France, in the department of Saint-et-Marne. It became renowned internationally in 2001 when it was first listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site on account of its medieval fortifications and other heritage structures. Provins hotels are generally of a high standard, and are within close distance to the major sites around town. One of the most inspiring and impressive sites to visit is Tour Cesar, which was first built in the town in 1571. In addition to Cesar Tower, the town also boasts a wonderful medieval wall which can be explored easily from anywhere in the settlement. Another popular attraction in town is Saint Quiriace Collegiate Church, which has an interesting history. Like most towns and cities throughout France, Provins is easily reached by train, especially from Paris, which is less than 100kms away.
