Introduction to Plombieres les Bains, France
A popular and historic spa town located in northeast France, Plombieres les Bains nestles in a verdant valley in the Lorraine region. The town has been famous for the therapeutic qualities of its natural hot springs since the Romans first discovered it. In the centuries that followed, many historic names have visited, some to partake of the spas and others to take part in political intrigue. The Napoleon baths are named after perhaps the most famous of these historical figures. The Calodae spa and wellness centre, housed in a 17th century building, used to be a convent, and the impressive Grand Hotel was built by Napoleon III. A surprising number of hotels in Plombieres les Bains also contain spas. Hotel du Parc, another impressive piece of architecture, dates from the turn of the 19th century. Fans of art will want to visit the Francois-Louis Francais museum, located in the painter's old house. The town sits within a huge nature reserve that straddles the border between Vosges and Haute-Saone. The E23 Euroroute terminates about two miles away. The closest railway station is at Remiremont, 20 minutes' drive to the north. Strasbourg, some 100kms away, offers the closest major airport.other spellings: plombieres lesbainshotels, plombieres les bains otel, plombires les bain hotell
